Selena Gomez has been quite consistent with releasing new music since the release of her studio album ‘Rare’. She over the weekend gifted the fans with new music and video for her single ‘Boyfriend’.
‘Boyfriend’ is written in light of the Selena Gomez wanting love and actually searching for it.
‘Boyfriend’ is a pop bop with a lot of feel good beats to it. The light instrumentations are layered over an underlying bass drop that has Michael Jackson’s bad samples. Selena Gomez in this song has a rather cheerful tone departing from her moody-nostalgic persona that she puts on her voice.
The video is set in the night bringing to life the story of kissing frogs to life. We watch Selena going out on many unpleasant dates and at the end of the night all her dates turn into frogs and she still has no ‘Boyfriend’.
There have been many stories of Selena releasing new music these coming months and maybe even an album. She has also been rumoured of releasing music about her ex-boyfriend The Weeknd but she is yet to comment on any of that. With ‘Boyfriend’ we are watching a Selena who is willing to be vulnerable enough to let her fans in on her struggle to find love. So, maybe all these rumours will suffice.
