Ykee Benda Offers to Translate Bobi Wine's ‘Corona Alert’ Song for Rwanda's President

As the rapid spread of the deadly corona virus intensifies in different countries, artistes are looking for ways to sensitize the public about the different measures to curb the disease.

Various artistes from different regions have taken up this role to address their message to the local people in the different languages they understand most.

In Uganda, Bobi Wine opened the show when he dropped his massive hit titled 'Corona Alert' featuring Nubian Li.

The lyrics are both in Luganda and English but has caught the attention of everyone both local and internationally (mainly because of the subtitles).

As of today, Bobi Wine's song has 914,249 views and is currently trending at position one on YouTube Uganda.

A news site in Rwanda; Kigali Updates announced that the Government of Rwanda was looking at using this particular song to sensitize its people about the Corona Virus.

According to this blog, the government had set aside a tune of 5000 USD (about 18 million UGX) for any artiste that can translate the song to Kinyarwanda language.

Ugandan artiste Ycliff Tugume commonly known by his stage name Ykee Benda came out and accepted the challenge in order to win himself the money.

“Your Excellency Paul Kagame, I have heard you are looking for someone to translate Bobi Wine’s coronavirus song to Kinyarwanda. I am humbly requesting you let me do it,” Ykee Benda said through his Twitter handle.

Uganda has 52 corona cases, while Rwanda has confirmed 104 coronavirus infections and two recoveries, the second-highest number in the region after Kenya with 179 cases.
