NIPHKEYS Biography
Adebajo Oluwanifemi Adebanjo, professionally known as Niphkeys is a Nigerian sound engineer and music producer. He was born in Lagos state, Southwest Nigeria and grew up in a neighbourhood called Alagbado. He went to primary and secondary school in the satellite town before moving to Ogun state for a few years for his university studies at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. He coined his name from the short of his middle name “Nifemi” and his love for playing the piano(keys). He is rated as one of the best producers in Nigeria.
His musical journey began in his teenage years in 2010 when he started learning and playing the piano. He then started a musical group “Tripsss” with his younger brother “IBKissleek” and his friend Tori Keeche. The group was basically a music production trio with the idea of co-creating, sharing and gaining music knowledge together. The group was behind the production of records from top artists including Zino’s hit single “Ma Pariwo”.
He has gone ahead to produce very successful songs outside his group “Tripss”. He is credited with the production of a good number of popular songs in the country and beyond. Feel Good by Mohbad, Naira Marley by Zinoolesky and Ale Yi by Zlatan tops the list of his very popular productions.
Speaking in an interview with Radr Africa where he was featured alongside fellow producer, Rexxie, Niphkeys shared the story of his love for music and his eventual branch out to production which he started by learning and falling in love with playing the piano.
Whilst in the university, he attempted to make his first beat. At the first trial, he was impressed with what he was able to create and this continued and nurtured his eventual entry into the Naija scene. Niphkeys recalls he started producing records professionally in 2016.
Niphkeys during the interview also spoke about how his breakout record “Kilofeshe” by Zinoleesky came about. In his words;
“While at home, I decided to work on my craft, and I made a ton of beats across multiple genres before returning to the Marlian house. That particular day, Zino wanted us to make a song, so I played several instrumentals, but when I played the Kilofeshe beat, the room just lit up with excitement, and he was like, “yo! This is the one, let’s do this”. The funny thing is, I didn’t initially like the beat, it was just one of those beats I made down, but he and everyone in the house that day loved it, so we just made the song.”
Niphkeys doesn’t like to be linked or tagged to a particular sound or genre. Although many of the popular songs he has produced are tagged Afrostreet. He insists that he is a versatile producer and still has a very good number of records to be released in the future that are Afropop, Rnb and other genres.
On the 26th of November 2021, under Soundhub Ent, he released his debut single “Blessings” featuring Zinoleesky. He also collaborated with Reekado Banks on the March 11 2021, released single, “Man of the Year”. He is also working on releasing his own music project with a number of singles from the project to be released before the final release of the project.
