About Dax

Dax, a Nigerian Canadian rapper represents the face of the success of Naija music abroad. He was born in Ottawa, Canada on March 22, 1994, to immigrant parents of Igbo descent.

His parents named him Daniel Nwosu Jr. Growing up, he loved basketball. In fact, he was a senior basketball star at Sunrise Christian Academy, where he was honoured as the team's most valuable player. He started his collegiate career at Casper College, and then transferred to the University of Montana.

All this time, hip-hop was already in his system but he knew not how to bring it out. He never gave up and his transfer to Newman University, a Catholic coeducational institution in Wichita, Kansas pushed him into making music melodies more. He went on to thrive at Newman and eventually topped the Heartland Conference in scoring. It is while at Newman that Dax started performing spoken-word poetry as a means to express himself. The 28-year-old did not know that this would make him a musician of international repute.

Life was hard enough; he worked as a janitor and it’s from this experience that he cultivated a rap instinct. It would then blow out into a full music career credit to his powerful skills as a songwriter. His love of poetry and desire to leave a mark on the world that would last shaped his music career. The power of poetry in music kept him around until 2017 when he released ‘Cash Me Outside’ as the first of the many songs that followed thereafter.

‘Cash Me Outside’ is the song that shot Dax to stardom and made him a voice to reckon with. Danielle Bregoli, an American rapper featured in this song. On his debut EP, titled "It's Different Now," published on August 22, 2018, he collaborated with O.T. Genasis and Futuristic. The EP is a narrative recounting his life experiences as a hustler and eventually as a rapper.  He never forgets the days he worked as a janitor to pursue his dream of attaining an education.

He says in different songs and in different vocals in the debut EP that he is completely different now. Essentially, the singer teaches people that there are no limits to what you can achieve. All he asks people to do be is patient and remain focused. ‘It’s Different’ came with a lot of success awards and quickly pushed him back to the studio to work on his second EP ‘F*ck Love’ under his Daniel Dax Entertainment record label which was also a success.  Still, in the hip-hop genre, the beats to this second EP were dope and true to it, and it topped the charts.

Since 2018, the ‘Suffocating’ hitmaker is a powerful force in the US. His California home ground supports his music in a big way. Gladly, with his African roots, he treasures talent from all over Africa. He collaborated with South African rapper Nasty C in his record-charting hit ’40 Days 40 Nights’. He is also on record speaking of his interest in working with several African hip-hop artists.

His goal while doing music is to put listeners in the same position as he is while they enjoy his songs. Dax shoulders a burden to inspire children to believe that their own ambitions are attainable. His aim is to make them feel at ease and know that they can achieve anything under the sun. The ‘Dear God’ hitmaker uses personal experiences to send this message across.  He invests heavily in his melody to give his lyrics a deeper meaning and perception. MediKal, a Ghanaian rapper is one of those artists with popular remixes of songs by Dax.

In general, the thirst to motivate and inspire people from Tanga to Tanzania and across the world is what fuels his musical nudge and he never fails. His songs perform exceptionally well, indicating legions of fans relate to them.
