NIYOLA BIO

She is a prolific singer and songwriter from Nigeria whose real name is Eniola Akimbo who was born on December 9 1985 in Ilesha Osun State. She became a household name in 2013 when she released her colossal hit titled "Toh Bad" which was well-received by fans across Nigeria.

Early Life And Career Breakthrough.

Niyola is the last born in a Conservative family of 10 children. Niyola realized that she is talented after attending a concert by Funmi Adams with her father. From there she made a decision that she wants to pursue a music career.

Her career professionally started in 2000 after auditioning for Amen Music Competition and becoming the winner. She later joined Trybe Records and then Make Sum Noise Entertainment where she released singles such as her debut ‘In Da Club.’

In 2012 Niyola signed a recording contract with Banky W's Empire Mates Entertainment where she did guest appearances in different album tracks together with Wizkid, Skales and Banky W.

According to Banky W, she spotted Niyola's talent at an event after hearing Niyola's voice from the bathroom and from there the two clicked and became friends. They later worked together in the EME label and in 2013 she released "Toh Bad" which was her first single under the label.

Niyola has an undergraduate degree from the University Of Lagos and her musical style has been influenced by different heavyweights such as Christina Aguilera, Rachel Ferelle and the award-winning Beyonce.

Awards Won

In 2013 Niyola was nominated for Best Vocal Performance for Female artist category at the Headies and Most Promising Female Act To Watch at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

The singer won the Best Female Artist Of The Year at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2014.

In 2022, she is nominated at the Africa Movie Academy Awards for Best Actress In A Leading Role for the Swallow.
In October 2021 she became an actress in the popular Nigerian film titled Swallow by Kunle Afolayan. Niyola acted as Tolani Ajawo, who is a Bank worker who is harassed by his boss and later moves back to the village.

The film was a Netflix Original, running for 128 minutes and it featured English, Yoruba and Pidgin.
