Who is Picazo?
Omogbolahan Sodiq Ilabode, popularly known as Picazo, is a Nigerian singer, rapper, and songwriter. The 25-year-old music star rose to fame after releasing freestyle raps and covers of popular songs. The youngster would share his content on Instagram and YouTube.
The rapper who hails from Lagos State has an impressive educational background. After successfully completing his primary and secondary education, he proceeded to join Lagos State University. He pursued a degree course in Mass Communication.
Picazo attracted the attention of top stakeholders in the Nigerian music industry thanks to the cover songs he did. His breakthrough project was the cover song he did of Chinko Ekun’s Able God. The original song which featured Lil Kesh (who was previously signed at the YBNL record label) and Zlatan at the time was top chats. This helped the cover song to g viral on the internet. Many praised his ability and creativity in rap and lyrism. He performs well in the Afrobeats and Afropop genres.
Among the top music personalities whose attention was drawn by Picazo’s talent was legendary musician Olamde who runs his own record label dubbed Yahoo Boys No Laptop (YBNL). Coincidentally, around the time that Olamide discovered Picazo, his record label had lost one of its top rappers. Olamide, therefore, approached Picazo and invited him to join his label which is one of the leading record producers in Nigeria.
Olamide’s partnership with Picazo elevated the youngster’s music career. The two went ahead to release the remix of Macaroni. Macaroni remix was treated to a warm reception among music lovers. It went extremely viral and earned itself thousands of streams and views on various music streaming platforms. Picazo had produced the original version of Macaroni while an upcoming artist at the Bit Bender Studios.
On July 8th, 2019, Picazo through a statement that he shared on social media announced his departure from YBNL. He expressed gratitude to Olamide for his support during the period that they worked together. He reportedly, later on, joined Senor Boyz Records. Details of his exit from YBNL still remain unknown as reports indicate that there was no official contract between the music star and the label. It is reported that the label gave him a platform to showcase his talent. Around the same time that the singer left YBNL, other top artists who had been signed by the label also made their exit.
The youngster’s rise to stardom has been characterized by consistency, hard work, and creativity. He rose to become one of the most sought-after rappers in Nigeria’s new-generation music. Over the years, he has cemented his reputation as the hottest rapper in West Africa with top-ranking hit songs and albums.
