Who is Aslay?
Aslay Isihaka Nassoro is a Tanzanian Bongo Flava singer and songwriter. He shot into the limelight in 2011 after releasing a song dubbed‘Nakusema’ under the management of Mkubwa Fella. At the time, he was a youngster aged sixteen years. His talent won over the hearts of many within and beyond the borders of Tanzania.

Aslay Journey and Breakthrough

His breakthrough song ‘Nakusema’ addressed the crucial subject of how children are affected by domestic violence. It was a subject that many related to, and the fact that Aslay presented it in an artistic manner through his poetic lyrics, made him one of the most promising artists in the Tanzanian music industry.

Aslay released several other songs as an independent artist. Among the songs that performed well online were; ‘Niwe Nawe’ and ‘Umbea Umbea’ featuring Temba.

In 2013, Aslay joined other rising stars Enock Bella, Beka Flavour, and Maromboso (now Mbosso) to form a band called Yamoto Band. The band took over East Africa with their hit songs and equally won over the hearts of music lovers. The band rose to become one of the most sought after bands in the region thanks to their hit songs such as; 'Nitakupwelepweta', 'Niseme', 'Nitajuta', 'Nisambazie Raha', 'Mama', 'Cheza Kwa Madoido', 'Mpaka Nizikwe' and 'Su' featuring Ruby among many others.

Unfortunately in 2017, the band split up leaving each artist to pursue their careers as solo artists. Speaking during a past interview, Mbosso clarified that the disbandment of the Yamoto band was due to the artists' financial welfare and not personal differences. Aslay was welcomed warmly as an independent artist and his songs topped the charts. The majority of the songs that he released went viral and gained millions of views on the internet. He rose to become one of the most influential music stars in Tanzania.

In 2017, the same year that Yamoto Band split up, Aslay released ‘Angekuona’ which has so far gained over 13 million views. He went on to release ‘Usiitie Doa’ featuring Khadija Kopa which equally gained over 10 million views. He followed it up with other singles such as ‘Baby’, ‘Likizo’, ‘Pusha’, ‘Koko’, ‘Tamba’, and many others.

At the end of 2021, fans raised concerns over Aslay’s prolonged silence. The singer has taken a break from music for close to a year. In response to the complaints, he teased his fans on Instagram with a teaser of a song he was working on.
