KENYA: Elani on the Receiving End of Tribal Attack After their Collaboration With King Kaka on 'Papa'
7 April 2016
The ugly face of tribalism reared its ugly face recently and this time on the receiving end was none other than Elani.
The incident involved one of King Kaka’s fans going by the Twitter handle ‘Tswana Warrior’ who took issue with the fact that he worked with Elani on his new jam ‘Papa’.
But unlike most fans who would usually attack their icons because they feel let down by their music, ‘Tswana Warrior’ took issue with the fact that King Kaka who is a Luo worked with Elani who are Kikuyus.
As for King Kaka himself, he was of course enraged by what the fan did and did not shy away from expressing what he thought about this incident.
“TRIBALISM is pure STUPID and should End NOW. And I will continue making music with anyone for everyone,” he wrote on his Twitter handle.
Elani as well were not left behind;
“As Elani,We have no space whatsoever to tolerate or condone any acts of Tribalism..Such reckless statements should not be accepted or made by anyone, nomatter who you think you are.We are the youth,we are the change we want to see…so stand up and be counted!!WE ARE KENYANS…WE ARE
KENYA and we shall keep standing firm to defend our heritage and culture.We will not entertain such silly comments from anyone.We are ONE people nomatter what tribe you come from,WE ARE ONE!!!!We have 42 tribes which are all beautifully and wonderfully made with rich culture.Let’s not fuel and destroy this blessing that we have.Love your neighbour as you love yourself..be your brother’s keeper and be patriotic and love your country..we shall never have another one. #KenyanAndProud”
