KENYA: Eric Wainaina and Wife Sheba Hirst Play Major Role in Bringing to Life Kenya's Biggest Musical

The musical of the widely acclaimed and hugely popular animated television series, Tinga Tinga Tales premieres today at The Elephant, Lavington.

Written by Claudia Lloyd, produced by Sheba Hirst, music by Eric Wainaina and choreographed by Mkamzee Mwatela—the show is a gloriously interactive and raucous stage musical, designed to entertain the whole family.

Based on the animation, the musical has enlisted the talent of some of Kenya’s top-notch actors and a notable production crew. The cast includes celebrated media personality and actor, John-Sibi Okumu, acclaimed singers Iddi Achieng’ & Phy (winner Maisha Superstar Season I), actor Elsaphan Njora and musical icon Eric Wainaina, among others. Studio Propolis, the amazing design duo alongside Kiko Romeo’s prodigious Ann McCreath have brought the well-loved characters to life in an explosion of carnival colors and design.

The musical will take its audience on a wonderful theatrical journey where they will sing with the Dawn Chorus, interact with their favorite characters from the TV series, help Giraffe get out of sticky situation and delight in seeing how Chameleon transforms from the greyest of grey things into an explosive Afro-fusion Master of Color. Everyone will sing, dance, laugh and cry… but most of all they will all have a TingaTingaTastic Time!
