KENYA: All Hail the King! King Kaka Makes Over 600K in Three Days Hawking His Mixtape on the Streets

For many artists selling albums or mixtapes in Kenya has long been a challenge seeing as piracy is still one of the biggest challenges threatening sales of artists work.

However King Kaka may have just hacked the game. On Friday he took to the streets of Nairobi in a never before seen marketing strategy to personally sell his new mixtape ‘It’s The King’ directly to his fans.

For an established artist and record label owner such as himself, you’d expect that he’d have an army of sales-people handling the sales part of the business. But King Kaka wanted to add a personal touch to his sales and according to how many copies he’s already sold, it seems it paid off in abundance.

According to reports, his new mixtape has already sold more than 3,000 copies and with each selling at 200 bob this means he made more than Ksh.600,000 in just three days.

Now I may not be an expert in album sales but I imagine this is a monumental figure for a Kenyan album let alone a mixtape.

Perhaps other artists in the country should think of employing the personal touch King Kaka has. He now not just the self-acclaimed King of Hiphop but we now anoint him the King of sales.

King Kaka’s ‘It’s The King’ mixtape is available for download on Mdundo.
