When Dela did the Swahili cover to Adele’s ‘Hello’, everyone was talking about how good it was. Dela quite literally set the bar high for anyone thinking of doing a ‘Hello’ cover. Even international media had nothing but praise for the singer.

So if a Swahili cover for ‘Hello’ was so good, what about a Gospel cover? What’s the worst that could happen?

That’s what I imagine Jimmy Gait was thinking when he did his Gospel cover for ‘Hello’.

This reminds me of the story of Icarus and his son. When you get to close to the sun, expect that you’ll get severely sunburnt. Translation, stay in your lane.

Everyone who listened to Jimmy Gait’s cover was mortified and justifiably so. Rarely does turning a great secular song into a Gospel song work in your favor.
