Mdundo Twitterview: Up Close with Uganda's Dancehall King Ziza Bafana

Starting a new year on a good note sometimes means getting up close with our favourite artists. Mdundo was honoured to catch up with Uganda's Dancehall sensation Ziza Bafana.

How is the New Year 2019 so far?

2019, so far so good.

Who is Ziza Bafana in a few words?

Ziza Bafana is a God fearing Ugandan aka Kasendwa Richard "The Raggagod"

Tell us about your life before the music?

It wasn't an easy one but as principles of life be,the road is not always a smooth one all through. Life started in Masaka i.e my home area till chances of invading the city came up.

How would you describe your style of music?

I describe my style as Jongo Music style

Tell us about your song Ebizibu... What's the inspiration behind it?

Yeah, this is not just a personal inspiration but it's a global inspiration. When you hear whatever situation(life challenges, bills etc) I sang about in this song,it exactly shows you that this is a song about the problems each and everyone is facing in their daily lives.

What inspires your lyrics when you write your music?

It's all about ART and the daily situations.

What are some of your 2019 plans? Who are some of the artists you'd like to work with?

My plans for 2019 ofcourse rely on more good music, DISCIPLINE Album conclusion/Release. I have projects coming up with many different artistes.

What are some of the major lessons you've learnt throughout your music career since you started?

I have learnt about the principles of good music i.e good music never fades, the consumers of music in Uganda at a paying grade love and respect what we call music with a message in it. That's why even when I took a break, my music/name has never lowered. Another lesson is the levels at which media houses/personalities demoralize artistes' names and works is so alarming too. Some of them out there spread rumours instead of spreading what's best and developmental in the industry.

2 things that most people don't know about you?
I am a business man  and I love children so much.

If you were to meet at least one artist who you've always looked up to especially when you were starting your music journey, who would it be?

Trust Me I can't be specific on this question because I look up to many artistes though some are dead at the moment. The likes of Micheal Jackson,Whitney Houston, Herman Basudde, Radio etc. I will appreciate those alive Buju, Bennie, Chameleone, Rema and Maddox.

What's the parting shot to your fans as we wind up?

My fans should rely and keep on supporting good music.

Get to know your artists better. Mdundo will be more than glad to hook you up so you can hang out a little more with them. Cheers!
