KENYA: Criticizing Ignorance and Stupidity: Davy Muini Releases His New Song 'Urimu'

After successful releases of the Mugithi hits ‘Sponsor’ and ‘Wíra Ni Wíra’, Kikuyu musician Davy Muini decided to amaze us with a new art piece. The new song has a message that cuts across all ages. ‘Urimu’ criticizes Ignorance and Stupidity in our society.

The video, again shot by Mash Ray, is a reminder of how acts of ignorance like drunk driving, unprotected sex, drug abuse, and illicit brewing endanger all of us. But most importantly the singer says he wants to open the eyes of our youths: ”Mostly I am focusing on the youths. Those are the ones who get high on cheap liquor. Most of them are very learned but get frustrated by unemployment and lack of opportunities. Our systems do not favour even those who have bright education. Many choose the comfort of those cheap drugs over the opportunities given but maybe not recognized as such.”

“Urimu does not only have a message close to my heart, it’s also very special to me in another way. It was the first song that I wrote. I was only 20 by then, but the time was never right to release it. Now, eight years later, the message still fits better than ever,” Muini continues.

The message is indeed still relevant and the song comes at the right time to open the eyes of our people. We don’t have so many opportunities, so don’t miss the ones you get over acts of ignorance, stupidity and immorality. Don’t get used by the illicit brewers as experimental objects which leads to blindness and impotence.

Davy Muini, who is very popular for his debut hit ‘Sponsor’, has just released ‘Urimu’ publicly with Mseto East Africa - celebrities Fundi Frank and Sameerbry at Club Sixtyfour in Nairobi. ‘Urimu’ and his whole EP ‘Sponsor’ are available for download and streaming at Mdundo.
