UGANDA: Afrigo Band, Sheebah Karungi To Headline This Year’s Doadoa Arts Market

Sheebah Karungi has been confirmed as one of the headliners of the Bayimba Foundation organised Doadoa East African arts market.

The four day event that brings together performers and exhibitors from East African countries and beyond aims at creating professional networks for people practising or managing performing art – in this way, the organisers usually bring buyers, exhibitors and booking agents among others.

But what adds magic to the whole program are performances that happen at the end of each day – these bring together artistes from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and the East African diaspora.

According to a statement by Music In Africa, one of the Doadoa partners, songstress and dancer Sheebah is one of the Ugandan performers that will be serenading people that will be showing up for the market.

She will be joined by the legendary collection of the Afrigo Band, guitarist, vocalist and designer Shifa Musisi as well as DJ Eric Soul from Rwanda, Tanzania’s Mapanya Band and Yves Kami from Burundi among others.

Unlike the past years, all activities of the market are absolutely free to both performers and the general public, these of course include performances and panel discussions that will look at topics like art working with media, exploiting the internet as a promotional tool.

Last year, there was a lot of focus on the use of social media tools to get music and portfolios beyond the Ugandan or Eastern African boarders, this saw Mdundo, one of East Africa’s leading download sites give out the first download awards that went to Sheebah and Goodlyfe.

This year’s edition of Doadoa will take place at the Uganda Museum on 9-12 May.
